The criterion
Choose by care and maintenance.
Care belongs inside the buying decision for works on paper. Cleaning, storage, replacement parts, and repair determine whether an object remains useful long after the first impression.
What to look for
- Care instructions that fit the time, tools, and storage you realistically have.
- Surfaces and components that can be cleaned, replaced, or repaired without specialist intervention.
- Finishes that will age in a way you can live with.
Questions worth asking
- What regular upkeep does this require?
- What happens after a stain, scratch, loose part, or worn edge?
- Is the necessary care proportionate to how often you will use it?
