The Aesthetic Criterion

Good taste asks
better questions.

Fashion, culture, and the capital behind taste.

The Aesthetic Criterion is an independent publication about the things that catch our eye, and the forces that make them matter. A silhouette can hold an idea. An archive can change a house’s future. A price can tell a story that a campaign would rather leave out.

We move between fashion, culture, and capital because beautiful things do not exist in separate rooms. We look at what was made, how it creates desire, and who benefits when that desire becomes value.

There is an actual criterion.

Attention is not the same as admiration. Our writing follows evidence, names its sources, and makes room for pleasure without turning every beautiful thing into an endorsement.

Your eye has a point of view.

The Taste Test begins with a simple question: which pulls you more? Thirty paired choices become a reading of your preferences and contradictions. It is an editorial exercise, not a psychological assessment or a shopping prescription.

Images have responsibilities.

Real stories use images with the rights and context their subjects require. The homepage portrait and garment diptych are original AI-generated conceptual imagery, never offered as evidence of a real person, collection, or event. The Taste Test uses original, reviewed fashion illustrations.
